san francisco, style, fashion, travel, lifestyle curated by Ariel Tzu-Chi

Fashion is about projecting where you're going in life.

Therefore, life is fashion, fashion is style.

That's the lifestyle I am producing.

Lecture | San Fran: Joel Sternfeld

My friend Yisheng asked me to go to the Joel Sternfeld lecture hosted at CCA. I was on a mood to go and it turned out to be a great experience. I had a glimpse of another art school as well as a peek into a great photographer's mind.

Joel Sternfeld (born June 30, 1944) is a fine-art color photographer noted for his large-format documentary pictures of the United States and helping establish color photography as a respected artistic medium. He has many works in the permanent collections of the MOMA in New York City and the Getty Center in Los Angeles. He has influenced a generation of color photographers, including Andreas Gursky, who borrows many of Sternfeld’s techniques and approaches.

I was sitting right under the stage, on the floor in front of the first row. I had a very intimate distance with the photographer, to be honest. When I looked at him while he speaks, I can see the shine in his eyes and I can hear the shake when he paused. To me, whatever skills that the greatest photographers have is never the content I wanna hear them sharing; it is the stories and the history of him/her that matters to me. If a person is willing to share his/her story with me, I am all-eared and will be wholeheartedly appreciating. It is a very personal and provocative connection sending out from that person, and you receive and return it with your own thoughts. Precious, that is.

After the lecture I was stunned by the streetlight and the urban reflection. So I took some photos of it to mark a perfect ending of tonight. /
