I once told my friend about why traveling alone is curtail for a person's brain and mind. "Do something you've never done when you're not traveling- if you never been to a restaurant alone then go; if you never visit a park solely then maybe you should; why the hell not? You're traveling and getting lost is the privilege." Maybe it's just me but I simply agree with Susanna Kaysen that if a person who doesn't talk to oneself or stare off into nothingness is therefore more alarming than a person who does. There is always the occasion that I need to be alone, I feel. I get nausea when I am not. It certainly does not mean self-abortion, but a moment of silence from the parallel universe with a wider horizon is always quivering.
